[Bug 1171145] Re: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10
Hello Joseph, Has any progress been made in this regard? Is there anything more I can do to help fix this problem? I though I would make it clear that the "wl" driver was not what came "out of the box". What came out of the box didn't work at all for me. >From my notes, and from what I can tell, this is the driver from bcmwl-kernel-source (It took me a day of searching and experimenting to try that successfully, but now it *mostly* works.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171145 Title: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1171145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1171145] Re: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10
Joseph, Let's say, it's not that easy. After the above, I was able to reboot, and confirm it was indeed kernel 3.9. But ifconfig showed no network devices of course. I'll attach lsmod, FWIW. ** Attachment added: "kernel-3.9-lsmod" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1171145/+attachment/3665677/+files/kernel-3.9-lsmod ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171145 Title: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1171145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Joseph, You didn't provide any instructions, so I had to guess. The results don't look good to me. [Bug 1171145] Re: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10
I REALLY don't like your "incomplete" status. You give me no reasonable option to change it to. This puts it into a state where you FORGET about a valid report in a few days -- that is SABOTAGE. Please make sure this anti-community nonsense is corrected. FURTHERMORE, there is the amazing apport-collect, which is *useless* in this case. Apport-collect is not installed by default, and without a network (which is the case here), is very difficult to install, but OK just use a different computer to download it (and its many package and run-time dependencies) and transfer them with a stick. AND THEN, it simply fails to work because there is no network. GREAT. OK, so I filed a separate bug report about that. Probably that one is set for "auto-forget" too. Geez guys. Are we really on the same team here??? This stuff looks very bad. Joseph, I have downloaded the new kernel and I will try it, but please note: This (otherwise lovely) machine is *unusable* under raring -- too many basic services are broken (I made reports in the beta, but they were evidently ignored). If your changes have in fact fixed the problem, I have to beg you to back-port them to 12.10, so I can continue to use my machine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171145 Title: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1171145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1171145] Re: Broadcom WiFi left in inconsistent state after suspend, shutdown in 12.10
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
