I've got the newest kubuntu 13.4 from release site and have the same situation. It's critical bug!! System is unsuable. Also I had two unecpected shut down of my computer during installation. I can confirm that this is STILL happening. I upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 today and got that error. Thankfully, I found this bug report, did apt-get install qdbus:amd64 from command line (Thanks to Bill Pier Post #3!) and had no further issues. I'm running an amd64 system, and always have. Oh, and getting to the command prompt, mounting / rw, getting the network interface up, yada yada yada was not without it's challenges as well. Any average user would would have thrown up their hands and gone back to Windows (GASP). Same here. Just got stuck with this issue. C'mon guys, I upgrade to a release 2.5 months later and still get hit by critical issues such as this? Just happened to me, too. This has always been an amd64 system, but qdbus:i386 was installed and caused this error, preventing login. found solution for me (and some others), as I have a 64bit system; Kubuntu Forums: After upgrading to 13.04 trying to log into KDE pops up an error message appeared Could not start d-bus. Can you Call qdbus? Running qdbus pops up the error: qdbus: could not exec '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/bin/qdbus': No such file or directory The reason was that qdbus:i386 was installed instead of qdbus:amd64 (my system is 64bit). My update log also shows that qdbus:i386 was installed - on my amd64 system.
