Re: [Bug 1175386] Re: .xsession fills up with gstreamer junk, then system effectively dies

2013-09-06 Thread ivo welch
I just don't use it any more. but it is a more generic problem than
rythmbox. no program and/or file should be able to overrun the system disk.

 Title:
   .xsession fills up with gstreamer junk, then system effectively dies

 Status in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:

   the junk in .xsession looks like this:

   GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_bus_timed_pop_filtered: assertion `timeout
   == 0 || bus-priv-poll != NULL' failed

   this wouldn't be so bad if this couldn't fill up many gigabytes in a
   hurry...in fact enough to effectively bring the system to a halt.

   I would think this would be critical bug. lsof tells me that
   gstreamer plugs into all sorts of other processes, which means that
   even deleting the .xsession file does not fix the problem. basically,
   it seems to require a reboot.

[Bug 1175386] Re: .xsession fills up with gstreamer junk, then system effectively dies

2013-08-28 Thread vega12
In my case, it is Rhythmbox that has filled the .xsession-errors file.
I used less on that file, jumped to the end of the file, and paged up.
For about a minute, all I could see where the lines:

(rhythmbox-metadata:29775): GStreamer-CRITICAL **:
gst_bus_timed_pop_filtered: assertion `timeout == 0 || bus-priv-poll
!= NULL' failed

over and over again. The xession-errors file is 27 GB, and has now
maxed out my system. I am going to delete this log file and if it keeps
filling up, I might have to do some fiddling to keep it from being
written to. I wish I could find out why this is failing though, to
cause all these errors.

don't think deleting will work, because the OS process has a hold on the
file. you may need to log out or reboot to get rid of it...if you can,
because the system becomes unresponsive. good luck. /iaw

This is hapening to me too. Plus, because I use btrfs, when I run out of
space I can't even delete files. Only a full system reboot can bring the
system back to workable conditions.

2013-05-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu

about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1175386/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.
