Re: [Bug 119561] Re: Not getting full screen resolution

2009-02-11 Thread BruceRonk
Sorry all, this hasn't been high on my list.

Originally I ended up editing the xorg.conf to force the resolution to 1280
x 800, and it was ok.

Had no troubles with upgrading to newer releases till 8.10. Now the video
defaults to a very 'speckly' look. Adding sisfb to /etc/modules has
resolved this problem.

Hi beronk,

Thanks for including the attached files. Could you also include your

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` too.

[Bug 119561] Re: Not getting full screen resolution

2008-12-16 Thread Leon Nardella
I just installed Intrepid on a SIS 661fx system I can't get it to run at any
resolution above 800x600
Both the Screen Resolution application Xrandr won't find the native monitor
mode ( 1024x768 @ 60 ) and, despite being able to add such mode through Xrandr,
I can't switch to it.

I don't really know what kind of information is needed to investigate
this, but I'll hastily help contributing any logs.

PS: This happens both on kernel 2.6.27-7 and 2.6.27-10, and I think it
worked well during the Intrepid Alphas, but I can't confirm this right
now.

[Bug 119561] Re: Not getting full screen resolution

2008-03-05 Thread Chipz
The chip is a Neomagic but the principle may still apply to other
situations. The maximum color depth is detected first and then the
maximum resolution is determined. If the default depth is decreased in
/etc/x11/xorg.conf, then higher screen resolutions may become available
in limited-memory video systems.

[Bug 119561] Re: Not getting full screen resolution

2008-03-04 Thread Chipz
I have a Dell Latitude Cpi D300XT that was stuck in 800x600 mode when
running XUbuntu 7.10. Analysis of the log showed that the video section
was reporting a default graphic depth of 24 bits, making the card run
out of memory at resolutions above 800x600. The fix is very simple:

In /etc/x11/xorg.conf change the line:
  DefaultDepth24
to
  DefaultDepth16

...Reboot...

New resolution: 1024x768

Done!

Same issue.

- Dell Latitude Cpi D300XT. Real estate stuck in 800x600 land. Shrunk
all font sizes to minimum allowed. Attempted to shrink all GUI elements
to minimum. Only pleasing visual is in Opera or Firefox browser, shrink
view of webpage.

Ubuntu v7.10 GUI windows are often so large, can't Resize, Move or hit
Tab bu unable to tell where Apply, Close, Next, etc buttons are located.

Graphics: NeoMagic MagicGraph 128XD NM2160.

Hope this helps Ubuntu developers, Dave-green bay, wisconsin.
