I think this bug is caused by a race condition... I can confirm the behavior described by the bug submitter. But, if Rhythmbox is started before using the Music lens, then things work properly. My guess is that rhythmbox-client runs before rhythmbox is ready so rhythmbox never receives the command to play the song. Running rhythmbox-client --play-uri file://path/to/mp3 when no rhythmbox is running causes rhythmbox to be spawned so I guess rhythmbox-client is the one running rhythmbox.
