Re: [Bug 120187] Re: kubuntu crashed on install
I encountered that bug one time, when I was experimenting with Ubuntu. Almost immediately after that I installed PCLINUXOS which I prefer. I have installed/reinstalled Ubuntu and PCLINUXOS a few times since then, for experimental reasons, but never encountered that bug again. I prefer PCLINUXOS over Ubuntu, as it has proved to be bug-free, seems to be a bit faster, and can be set so no login is necessary. (I'm usually the only user on this home desktop.) To summarize -- I only encountered the subject bug once, have no recollection as to what that was about, so have no info to offer. -- kubuntu crashed on install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 120187] Re: kubuntu crashed on install
I guess I have experienced the same bug: Booted Kubuntu Live CD 7.04 on an Acer laptop, 512 Mb memory. No crash, all _seemed_ to go well, but: - No window indicating success or anything - Grub was not installed on the hard disk - In konsole, typeing something like 'www' didn't give -bash: www: command not found but filesystem-errors. - Several other valid commands also produced filesystem errors. - I installed grub by hand on the hard disk, but the system wasn't useable after all. Later on, a text-based install succeeded. It looked like a corruption of the initramfs. -- kubuntu crashed on install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 120187] Re: kubuntu crashed on install
I can add some information to the latest comment: - An integrity check of the medium did not find any errors - A hardware check (memory) did not find any errors - The filesystem errors were SquashFS: unable to read inode and some others, about 8 times for every command - Clicking on any icon or applet on the desktop (after installation) made that icon or applet disappear and nothing more happen - The laptop is: Acer TravelMate 4100, video ATI Radeon Mobility X700. - The problem is completely reproducaeble. - Before an attempt to install anything, everything worked fine, except that it did not seem to remember manual network configuration. After the text-based install, a working system was installed that has not had any related problems since Sunday. -- kubuntu crashed on install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 120187] Re: kubuntu crashed on install
Should be ok for the moment to assign it to ubiquity. But Jonathan, please keep in mind that ubiquity isn't involved if the bug author used the alternate text-based installer. -- kubuntu crashed on install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 120187] Re: kubuntu crashed on install
Thanks for your bug report. We need some more information on your bug to solve the problem. Which version of Kubuntu are you using and do you install from Live or Alternate CD or Live DVD? Which hardware do you want to try to install on? If you use the graphical installer, you may want to read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/ about how to give us the crash logs. ** Changed in: Ubuntu Assignee: (unassigned) = Dennis Dirdjaja Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- kubuntu crashed on install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
