Greg, can you please post the output of lspci (run in in a terminal). ** Description changed: Hello everyone :-) If anyone can provide some piece of advice on this, I'd be more than grateful: I have a Toshiba Satellite P100-347 with as a Graphic Card an Nvidia GeForce 7900. I installed Feisty Fawn (Kubuntu) on dual boot as I am a newB, and was very happy with the internet connection but not as much with the sound: I just can't hear anything. Using different Plugins and packages to allow MP3 being readen by Amarok, Totem, VCL... I did however not manage to get any sound. I guess the driver of the Graphic card does not work properly. What is your audio device name. Dear Freddy, looking at some bugs reported on recent Nvidia Graphic Cards and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, [perhaps these people have similar problems: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/110657 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/110395 I think I found some other users of Ubuntu having no sound. They suggested the following software: http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html As this is not part of the Ubuntu official update, I am feeling suspicious concerning the program to install.
