[Bug 123823] Re: No sound from speaker outputs Asus A8N-SLI deluxe MOB with Realtek AC850 sound - Kubuntu 7.04
With much work I now have my sound working like it has (in Mandriva) in the past. Sound still comes out of what is suppose to be the light blue line in plug (according to the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe user guide) instead of the lime green line out. I get sound from both this plug and the gray rear speaker out plug as well as the front headphone plug that has always worked. Since I am in 4-channel mode this is at least the correct number of outputs even if I do get sound out of an input. :-0 I have not tried other modes. I am actually happy with this much so I don't really want to press my luck. How did I accomplish this? I am not really sure!!! I did several things none of which seem to do help in fact some hurt initially. First I compiled and installed the Alsa sound driver I found at the Asus web site for my mother board. This seemed to break my sound completely at first. I could only get OSS sound after doing this even after several reboots. I tweaked a bit and I don't remember all the details. At one point I no longer even had sound from my front panel headphone jack which had worked before. Eventually I changed my ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf file to what it is now. (see the attached file) It had nothing in it previously either from the Kubuntu default installation or from the initial Asus driver install. I got these setting from the driver install guide. Oddly this did not seem to help immediately or even after a single reboot. Perhaps I had some other setting wrong from my previous messing around. But eventually after at least one more reboot and other nondescript tweaking I found that my Alas driver was now working and that I had sound out of several out puts as I have indicated above. BTW - it was never an issue of volume controls I know to check these and I did this in both the GUI and the Alsa command line utility for this purpose. Attached you will find my current sound setup info. I am happy now but I can't say I know exactly how I fixed it. :-) ... :-( ** Attachment added: "Sound info after fix" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8696181/sound_info.txt -- No sound from speaker outputs Asus A8N-SLI deluxe MOB with Realtek AC850 sound - Kubuntu 7.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 123823] Re: No sound from speaker outputs Asus A8N-SLI deluxe MOB with Realtek AC850 sound - Kubuntu 7.04
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- No sound from speaker outputs Asus A8N-SLI deluxe MOB with Realtek AC850 sound - Kubuntu 7.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 123823] Re: No sound from speaker outputs Asus A8N-SLI deluxe MOB with Realtek AC850 sound - Kubuntu 7.04

But eventually after at least one more reboot and other nondescript tweaking I found that my Alas driver was now working and that I had sound out of several out puts as I have indicated above.
