[Bug 1252473] Re: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document
You cannot simply rename a printer by editing its name in printers.conf. If you want to rename a printer, start system-config-printer, right- click on the printer's icon, choose "Rename", and enter the new name. Otherwise you get a broken print queue. Please remove all your print queues for your Brother printer and then turn off and turn on your printer. Wait until a new print queue is created. Can you print now? If yes, the bug got fixed in the mean time. If no, tell us exactly which printer model you have and follow the instructions of the following sections on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems: - USB printer - CUPS error_log - Capturing print job data - Getting the data which would go to the printer - USB printer does not print or prints garbage Attach all resulting files, but please do not compress or package the files together, please attach them one by one. Thanks. ** Changed in: cups-filters (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1252473 Title: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1252473/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1252473] Re: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document
Hi I've attached (hopefully... I don't see how to verify if the attachment is actually attached) a zipfile containing /var/log/cups/error_log printout, which is captured data as per your request output_from_printJob.pdf, which is a scan of what the printer printed original_printJob.pdf, which is the file I sent to the printer There may be some additional attachments, but the interface doesn't list anything but the latest attachment so I don't know Hopefully this is all that you requested Thanks again for your help! ** Attachment added: "Zip file containing requested information" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1252473/+attachment/3913558/+files/output.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1252473 Title: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1252473/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1252473] Re: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document
Sorry, hit return too fast. I discovered that if I renamed the printer as per suggestions on the web, i.e., edited /etc/cups/printers.conf and changed the line to this printer also produced garbage. When I reinstalled it with the original name, this second worked ok. Is there a way of renaming a printer that doesn't create problems? I had also renamed my Brother printer, but when I reinstalled it with it's original name, the garbage output problem was *not* fixed. I'll proceed with your suggestions now for that printer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1252473 Title: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1252473/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1252473] Re: Brother printer attached by usb prints garbage went sent a pdf of a scanned document
Is it garbage that would be worth posting a picture of? Or is it just a mess of characters.
