Hi, this problem is not yet solved. typically i dont update to new releases very often because things just keep breaking and i am not expert enough in Linux to fix them well. so when i find a release that mostly works for me, i like to stay with it. when i do update i will certainly let you know, since i use the gdal library a lot. its really quite important to get this bug fixed - at least for scientific geospatial needs... cheers, Vishal Vishal K. I discovered the exact same problem as gmayer. that is, gdal 1.4.4 as packaged by Ubuntu Hardy 8.04LTS gives a segmentation fault upon attempting to use netcdf files. I have actually run into this problem and it manifests itself in Hardy with the gdal libs and -bin installed (1.4.4). I try to open or analyse ANY netcdf file and it gives me a segmentation fault, see attached .nc file which causes netcdf to segfault. Downloading the gdal 1.4.4 source tarball and building it with (./configure; make) gives me an apps/gdalinfo binary which correctly reports the metadata of the file. So this is a build problem which should really be fixed not only for Intrepid but also for Hardy itself - after all it's supposed to be a STABLE release.
