That happened to me when I upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 stable. But no solution worked for me.. It's very serious as I couldn't work now. I tried to use nvidia 331 drivers, prime select nvidia and Intel, purge all nvidia drivers, startx... But always all black except terminal. I readed all similar bugs out there but almost all are dated from January and February.. I writing this from my smartphone after 2 days fighting... I have a laptop with a nvidia 765gtx. The previous kubuntu worked almost fine with the 319 driver (I also tried to use that driver). The fact that /var/log/prime-offload.log is missing, means that the program that is supposed to tell the system to use prime is not being used. @Alberto today i have installed some updates from proposed. This broke my system (xorg etc.) so i had to do a fresh 14.04 installation. I hav einstalled also nvidia 331 and this ad dependency installed nvidia-prime. After I update nvidia-prime to 0.5.5 it works.
