[Bug 1277959] Re: [Asus 1015E] Fn+F2 is not working for activating/deactivating wifi
@Ant, Your model does not use the asus_nb_wmi driver which the bug is about, so your problem is not related to this particular bug, nor is the workaround for you. Blindly applying patches/workarounds not meant for your model would only make the problem worse. If you have a thread on the problem on ubuntuforums.org, please give me its link so I can try what we can. If not, and the problem still exists, I suggest you do that now - post a thread on ubuntuforums.org and give me its link (posting it here or via PM on ubuntuforums). PS: Based on confirmations in comment #22 here, and comment #59 in the related bug #1173681 , I have edited the ubuntuforums post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2181558) to change the wapf value from 1 to 4, and added the request to post the command output for model number. Still unsure though why it broke on models on which there was no problem with older kernels. As long as that remains unexplained and the Fn+F2 unfixed, this will still remain a 'Workaround', not a fix. But thanks to you, Hans, for at least patching the code for reported models to make them work out of box, and not requiring to apply the workaround manually. It'd be a delightful day when the real culprit is found and the 'real' fix is released, so that the Fn+F2 issue is fixed too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1277959 Title: [Asus 1015E] Fn+F2 is not working for activating/deactivating wifi To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-raring/+bug/1277959/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1277959] Re: [Asus 1015E] Fn+F2 is not working for activating/deactivating wifi
Hi All, I'm an upstream kernel developer who happened to stumble over this bug. The proper solution here is to add a dmi based quirk to the asus-nb-wmi driver to use wapf=4 by default. Note the wapf=4 not wapf=1 which everyone has been testing with sofar. I would like to add a proper fix for this to the upstream kernel (which should then eventually find its way to the ubuntu kernels when ubuntu switches to a newer kernel). I need your help for this. First of all please adjust the workaround with the /etc/modprobe.d/asus_nb_wmi.conf file to set wapf to 4. Then reboot and test that wifi still works, and if you've bluetooth and that that also works. Once you've confirmed that everything is fine with wapf=4, run the following command: cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name From a terminal and add a post here with the output of this command. Then I can add a quirk for your model to asus-nb-wmi.c and send a patch upstream. Thanks, Hans p.s. The latest upstream code already has a quirk for the specific model (1015E) this bug is about, but I do still need the requested infor from people with other models who are also subscribed to this bug.
