Hi, You are correct. PCI ID 1102:0005 is a first-generation X-Fi, not an SAA7134. The problem was with my Creative SB-x-fi card and the bug for that is bug 63352 . Does this issue still exist in the Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so, the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is also scheduled for release today. It will appear at the following when available: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2 . It contains the actively developed 2.6.26 Ubuntu kernel. Hi. While you read the below, keep in mind that this system originally was a server system. I then added the packages I needed and upgraded from feisty to gutsy. So now, with help from a nice guy on #ubuntu+1, I was able to solve this issue. The system ran with Kernel 2.6.22-12-386. I needed to modprobe snd-hda-intel. This wasn't provided by 2.6.22-12-386, so I did: - sudo apt-get install apt-get install linux-image-2.6.22-12-generic linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-12-generic The module snd-hda-intel is provided by linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-12-generic. So: - sudo apt-get install linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-12-generic Then load the module: - sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel And now, listen to some nice music. That's all. Sound then worked for me. But I still am wondering: Why didn't this work out of the box? Why did it work with Feisty out of the box, but not with gutsy? Due to the upgrade? Will it work if I perform a fresh gutsy install? It worked out of the box with Feisty, but after upgrading to gutsy sound fails miserably.
