[Bug 1287587] Re: [ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K53SD] suspend/resume failure

2014-11-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Karma Dorje, as per
http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K53SD/HelpDesk_Download/ an update
to your BIOS is available (208). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1287587] Re: [ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K53SD] suspend/resume failure

2014-09-02 Thread gouri
@pawel.jasinski I observed same behavior and independently arrived to
the same conclusion.

I suspend by pressing [fn]-[f1], then close the lid and pick up the
laptop. Then on the other site I resume it from suspend.

Case 1 : If the lid was closed immediately after pressing the key combo,
everything is fine, laptop resumes when asked.
Case 2 : If the lid was closed after a few seconds after pressing the key
combo, laptop hangs on resume. After force reboot it says something prevented a
previous reboot from finishing.
Case 3 : If the lid was closed after waiting for the suspend to complete (power
led blinking), everything is fine, laptop resumes when asked.

I have been observing this behavior since Ubuntu 14.04 . Case 2 seldom
happens, so I can't be sure it didn't happen with Ubuntu 13.10 that I
used on the same laptop before.

I believe it is triggered by going to sleep (started with a keyboard)
and closing the lid before sleep completes.

I experience the same on HP8560w during suspend. It happens only
occasionaly, I am trying to figure out the pattern.

[Bug 1287587] Re: [ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K53SD] suspend/resume failure

2014-03-04 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
