[Bug 1290236] Re: ubiquity gpt ext4 format error
Both Ubiquity and gparted format the same way: by running mke2fs. The only thing I can think of is that having it already formatted gave more time for the block groups to finish being initialized after being mounted. You could check this with the debugfs stats command. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290236 Title: ubiquity gpt ext4 format error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1290236/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1290236] Re: ubiquity gpt ext4 format error
My concern was raised because Acronis True Image only exhibited the forced sector-by-sector behavior after 14.04 had been installed in a target partition that had been formatted by Ubiquity during the installation. If the target partition had been formatted by gparted v18 prior to the 14.04 installation, Acronis would have created a compressed image just as it would with an install of 13.10. Why does pre-formatting with gparted cause a different result than formatting during installation? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290236 Title: ubiquity gpt ext4 format error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1290236/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1290236] Re: ubiquity gpt ext4 format error
If Linux finds nothing wrong with the filesystem, then there is nothing wrong with it; the problem is on Acronis's end. My guess would be that they don't like the ext4 uninitialized block group feature, that speeds up formatting large volumes, but mounting the volume and waiting long enough finishes initializing the block groups. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290236 Title: ubiquity gpt ext4 format error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1290236/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
