On 14.04 one can use a workaround: $ #force plymouth to use framebuffer $ echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash $ sudo update-initramfs -u On 14.10 this won't work... Hi Steve, I am talking about the animation with Ubuntu logo and dots below it showing progress. I have seen this problem since I updated from 13.10 to 14.04 beta. I first thought this might be because of AMD graphics drivers (fglrx) but when I upgraded ubuntu running on virtual machine from 13.10 to 14.04 (this virtual machine is hosted on a PC running windows 7 using Virtual Box), the same problem persists. I waited long enough for final release, still no fix in 14.04 final for the same. Checkout bug screenshot, you'll see what is visible before animation. What boot animation did you have previously? If you are using fglrx, the only animation you should see is text-based animation. The animation is also shown only once either a Linux drm driver is loaded, or udev has finished probing the hardware; so the animation will be visible for a minimal amount of time.
