I checked /etc first, but no loclahost there. Few moments ago I found the culprit - proxy setup in Gnome for my own account for which settings are stored under home directory! There was a typo loclahost instead of localhost, but since not many apps were using this configuration it was so hard to spot. I am really really sorry for taking your time - i forgot to mention that I did reinstall the system, but kept my home directory.
