Public bug reported: i did a backup of the system before installing a fresh ubuntu 14.04 i had a 32bit 13.10 and backed it up and installed 64bit 14.04
i did: mkdir /tmp/sda3 mount /dev/sda3 /tmp/sda3 mkdir /tmp/sda3/WANAHAT mv /tmp/sda3/* /tmp/sda3/WANAHAT umount /tmp/sda3 and then started the installation process. installed the system on sda3 After intsallation, i noticed that my backup wasn't intact. /WANAHAT/etc was replaced with the new installations /etc so /etc/ and /WANAHAT/etc/ were identical after installation. I needed the /WANAHAT/etc since my configuration files were there (vdr for example) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: ubiquity (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.46-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Fri May 2 17:51:33 2014 InstallCmdLine: file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu-gnome.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash -- maybe-ubiquity InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-05-02 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-GNOME 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140416.2) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: ubiquity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty ubiquity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315414 Title: all etc/'s got replaced during installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1315414/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
