Since installing bash-doc resolved the problem, do you think this issue

I didn't have bash--doc installed, but after installing, the path now
exists.

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

As mentioned in the comment, the directory (and examples file) is in the
bash-doc package which doesn't seem to be installed by default. Could
you please check whether you have bash-doc installed?
