[Bug 133853] Re: Automatically reclaim swapped pages when there is free memory

2013-05-10 Thread Phillip Susi
There is no way for the kernel to predict what pages you will and won't
need in the future, and it is not desirable to simply pull pages in from
swap just because there is room for them, as those pages very well may
never be referenced again so the ram would be better used by for
example, the page cache.

[Bug 133853] Re: Automatically reclaim swapped pages when there is free memory

2010-12-29 Thread jon-paul clark

I seem to have a small amount of data residing in swap for no apparent reason,
usually only >5Mb even though ram is less than 50%.

[Bug 133853] Re: Automatically reclaim swapped pages when there is free memory

2007-12-07 Thread Jon Anderson
Yup, still an issue.

Doing "sudo swapoff -a && sudo swapon -a" really makes things feel more
"peppy" and responsive, but I wouldn't expect a newbie to do this. This
really is something that should be going on in the background (perhaps a
small service?).

2007-12-06 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you? Thanks in advance.
