[Bug 136769] Re: Package ttf-opensymbol fails to update through update manager on default 7.04 install

2008-02-07 Thread dr_agon
I confirm this problem after fresh 7.04 (Feisty) install from alternate CD.
The workaround by PaulFr posted by yct worked fine - thanks.

As I'm not the linux wizz, could someone enlighten me what exactly this
workaround does? I think I understand the command, but miss the sense -
why it helps? I'd be grateful for short explanation.

Hi, this page hits no.1 when searching for this bug, so I'll copy a
(better) workaround here:

touch /tmp/current_time
sudo find /usr/share/fonts /usr/share/X11/fonts /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d
~/.fonts ~/.fontconfig /usr/local/share/fonts -newer /tmp/current_time -exec
touch {} \;
sudo dpkg --configure --pending

and continue your day as usual.

[Bug 136769] Re: Package ttf-opensymbol fails to update through update manager on default 7.04 install

2007-12-28 Thread Ram Sambamurthy
I was installing updates after a fresh install of ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy when
I came across this issue.

As suggested by others, reinstalling ttf-opensymbol didn't work for me.
There were still all those openoffice and python uno errors.

What YCT said worked wonders. There were some minor errors like some of
the directories in the command line were not found. But apart from that,
everything went well after that, there were no more errors whenever I
added or removed applications.

Thanks PaulFr and thanks YCT for pointing us to this problem.

I don't know what install made that virtual machine image so I installed
from an i386 alternate CD and still was unable to reproduce this bug

Brian,

Are these virtual machine images based on a GUI install or an
alternative install? I have only attempted to install via the
alternative CD, as the GUI CD fails to install using my Dell 1520.

Many thanks

successfully updated even though ubuntu-restricted-extras was not

[Bug 136769] Re: Package ttf-opensymbol fails to update through update manager on default 7.04 install

2007-09-10 Thread thingy
Synopsis of this bug:

- Do a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04
- Get the latest security updates (apt/aptitude/synaptics)
- The ttf-opensymbol update will fail to install, blocking the remaining 10-15
updates from happening

2007-09-10 Thread thingy
Ok. The ubuntu-restricted-extras has msttcorefonts has a dependancy and
its that package which when installed resolves the issue. I'm going to
try chaging this bug's "Affects" + "Importance" to try and get someone
to look at it since it wil effect all who do an install of Ubuntu and
then try to get updates straightaway.

[Bug 136769] Re: Package ttf-opensymbol fails to update through update manager on default 7.04 install

2007-09-10 Thread thingy
I can confirm this behaviour. I also did a recent install of Ubuntu from
an alternative 7.04 cd and upon doing updates after booting into Ubuntu,
found ttf-opensymbol failing to install and blocking the other packages.
It seems that the fc-cache utility was complaining about not being able
to write to the cache directories.

I haven't tried the suggested work around but will do so tonight.

Need to confirm if this is specific to the alternative cd install only
or is the same for all the standard install methods since a lot of
people could be affected by this.

[Bug 136769] Re: Package ttf-opensymbol fails to update through update manager on default 7.04 install

2007-09-02 Thread Andy Lee
UPDATE: I installed the package ubuntu-restricted-extras and the ttf-
opensymbol package successfully installed.

I then performed two more installs, first install I confirmed the repetition of
the bug.
Second install:
1. I updated all packages with the exception of all those relating to
OpenOffice.Org, ttf-opensymbol and python-uno.
2. Rebooted
3. I installed ubuntu-restricted-extras
4. Rebooted
5. I sucessfully installed ttf-opensymbol

Is this a dependency issue?

I have tried to use Synaptic's force version to roll back to
