Had the same problem. I just wanted to say that I'm seeing the exact same behaviour under Gutsy (dist-upgraded from Feisty). Hello, in my opinion this is just really a big in the install script. /usr/sbin/xdvi-xaw.bin is here and working (it is what was invoked by the "xdvi" command before this upgrade). I'm unable to reproduce this. The symbolic link and alternative works ok, if a little ugly. I doubt this is Ubuntu-specific if it really is a bug. The only Ubuntu changes in texlive-bin 2007 are libpoppler and kpathsea changes.
