[Bug 137389] Re: No Sound from onboard Analog Devices AD1888 SI7012

2009-07-23 Thread kernel-janitor
Hi Steve,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . Please then run the following
command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 137389

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I can't say for certain that I tried oss but I tried a lot of things
over a couple of days. I don't have access to that laptop as it was a
friends, but if I do I'll upgrade it to hardy when that's available and
let you know if anything changes.

Yeah - in Gutsy just couldn't get it to work - ended up buying a usb
sound adapter like this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Audio-Adapter-Microphone-
Jack/dp/B000Q5VKMQ/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8s=electronicsqid=1207768216sr=8-1

which works fine

sound does not work with that version either.

Cheers!!

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried adding acpi=force and it still
did not work. I did a cheap workaround by purchasing a $4.95 USB sound

[Bug 137389] Re: No Sound from onboard Analog Devices AD1888 SI7012

2007-10-08 Thread eiffel
I've got the same card, chipset and OS - and exactly the same problem.

I've looked around for ages searching for a solution, following
everything that has been mentioned or linked to in the posting above to
no avail. I've got a Packard Bell Easynote J and so this could well be
this bug too:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/75528

When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack i get that click/buzz
sound like it's definately alive, and fiesty seems to be finding it,
loading the module etc. So it seems to me it must be some kind of bug in
the driver, but I know very little about such things.

Is there any hope this will work anytime soon or do I need to go buy a
pcmcia sound card?

Any help or advice much appreciated.
