I think I'm having the same problem here... Only, I have a working internet connection (I can surf the web anyway). When the Cover Art plugin is enabled (as it was by default on a recent Feisty system), Rhythmbox crashes with a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error message. I see the "cover art loading" icon, as in the screenshot in a previous comment by Dmitriy. Also on the 3 min 9 sec (magic moment) timepoint Rhythmbox crashes. One remark still about my internet connection : I'm behind a corporate proxy, maybe that's the problem... To produce this bug, try to disconnect from the internet but stay connected to the LAN... or something like this... Lol dumb me :) So now our goal is to understand under which conditions does exactly rythmbox crash. As you can expect, lots of people use it without problems when they are not connected to Internet. I have just tried, no problem. So it must happens under specific conditions. And we have to find out. So here are the steps you are doing : you are offline, you are just launching rythmbox, click on play, then you just wait, and it will crash? No other interaction with rythmbox? Try to do this: 1. Turn off your internet connection — you have to deny internet access only, but leave connection to the LAN. You may not use gnome-network-preferences. I use my internet provider's control panel... 2. Move your ~/.gnome2/rhytmbox -> ~/.gnome2/rhytmbox.BAK 3. Start rhytmbox and turn on only one plugin — «Cover art» 4. Restart rhytmbox and wait while it adds some music (your profile is clear now) 5. Start playback of any song with length >= 4min. 6. Listen... And if you do first step right, you must to see loading animation in place where cover art must be (i will try to upload screenshot here). 7. At moment 3 min 9 sec (magic moment) it crushes (in my computer). Ok clear steps is what we need to reproduce :) So i followed your steps... but no crash. The animation will finish around 4 min. I have checked bug reports, but i can't find a duplicate.
