Albert's comment fixed it my Mac Mini problem with a single LCD monitor. I have a new Intel Mac Mini with an Intel GMA 950 graphics card. System->Administration->Screens and Graphics indicates Gutsy is using the intel experimental modessing driver for the Intel 945. It all seems to work okay except maximising the window didn't fill the bottom 20% of the screen. I unchecked "Detect Outputs" in the compiz settings, restarted compiz, and then maximise worked properly again. This bug made vlc/totem not play dvd's and other videos in full screen correctly. Bump. This is an important issue... Many "power-users" have large monitors. These people are often very experienced with computers and software, and therefore they are very demanding and critical of bugs. Since they are experienced, their opinions are considered authoritative and they are more likely to influence the opinions of others. What is the output of 'glxinfo -l | grep MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE'?
