Public bug reported: a fresh install of gnome distro of ubuntu 14.04 and just updated. It is a System76 gazel with usb2 and usb3 plugs. It does not matter which plug is used. all usb's seem to attach to usb3-?? where ?? is indexed up one each time i replug it.
