I've installed kdenlive under Kubuntu Trusty Tahr with this commands from the
PPA:

sudo apt-get install libmlt4 libmlt-data libmlt++3 python-mlt3 melt

After the start with an empty project i added a video (DV-PAL 1h:37') in the
clip-area from an external usb-drive.
It lasts about five minutes, while the audio thumbnail is created. After that
the clip can be viewed in it's monitor window.
If i stop playing, and point with the cursor on the clip timeline to a
further point (e.g. 30' after startpoint) kdenlive hangs for about 10
minutes; it seems as if the usb-disk behaves like a videotape that has
to be wound forward.
There is no further message in the terminal window, where i started kdenlive
(in debug-mode) with the command:

/usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu-distrib/kdesu -u muelux kdenlive

I'm struggling with that problem for a month now, but won't give up
trying to get kdenlive running;
