[Bug 1416497] Re: Touchpad is not working properly on an AsusR510J laptop
mvergnaud, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.19-rc6 to 4.0-rc1 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your release. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Thank you for your understanding. mvergnaud, could you please test the latest mainline kernel via http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/ and advise to the results? ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-303 ** Tags added: latest-bios-303 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Medium ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1416497 Title: Touchpad is not working properly on an AsusR510J laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1416497/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1416497] Re: Touchpad is not working properly on an AsusR510J laptop
mvergnaud, as per http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550JK/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (303). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-303 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1416497 Title: Touchpad is not working properly on an AsusR510J laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1416497/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tested both generic and lowlatency 3.19-rc6 kernels. For both the bug is still there. Only differnce I could notice is that the touchpad now appears as PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad in mouse emulation. [Bug 1416497] Re: Touchpad is not working properly on an AsusR510J laptop
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.19 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance.
