In case somebody else lands here, also to mention that for proper ordering (workaround #3) you need not only to fill in the correct 'track count' but also to fill in the correct disc number and sync across all songs, possibly even resync the artist and album fields. The same thing happened to me and it seems that filling the track count metadata with the correct value corrected the problem (at least it did here).
