Finally, i've deleted pidgin from that bug report. Thanks for your patience (it was Ubuntu distribution and pidgin package !) As i said, since apturl works with links in Firefox 2 for Gutsy, i think it should also work with other softwares which are able to handle links : Evince with PDF files and Pidgin. Both Firefox, Evince and Pidgin are bundle with Ubuntu, that's why it would make sense to unify their behaviour. The drawback is that people will use their passwords more frequently and then it will become less exceptionnel in their mind which is not a good thing for security. But it's still better than gdebi if you consider that packages are installed from official repositories...
