This bug, originally filed for Ubuntu 15.04 and fixed upstream in February 2016 [1], is still (to some extend) present in (K)Ubuntu 17.10 [2]. Is there any chance that it will be fixed for for 18.04? It should be clear Bernd that English is the way to go with everything
tailored for an International Community.(in this case KDE) That some
German people are so focused on their own inability to understand the
language. (That is needet in every Internation Community) And start
demanding that the far bigger part of the community writes in there
language, even if they just could fix that by learning English in the
first place is really hard for me to understand. Im German too but i
would not demand from others to speak a language that is clearly not the
most spoken in the internet in any professional or most other
communitys. So please write with us in english and back to topic please :).

1. Many (non-expert, just) users are heavily affected by this bug. In fact, everyone that wants to install KDE and another major desktop environment in parallel will fail. Some will quite likely give up using (K)Ubuntu. (If even such simple things do not work easily...) 2. It was opened in May 2015. 3. This bug only exists because of wrong file/path names. You do not need to be a genius hacker to fix it. 4. It was resolved upstream in February 2016. 5. It was promised to be resolved for Ubuntu 16.04. 6. Now, almost two months after Ubuntu 16.10 was released, it still exists. The history of this bug tells a lot about the current status of (K)Ubuntu. Ubuntu: Nobody cares much about things beyond Unity. Kubuntu: Nobody (if anyone is still working on it) cares about things beyond Plasma. PS: I know that bashing here does not help much. I tinkered with a similar command, then could install Gnome. It meets my needs so I might not even try to install Unity, but I think it would install now, too. There may be a fix for some developers, but for thousands of users, nothing chanced since May 2015 (!) when this bug was filed! This bug is fixed when you can do the following two simple steps (which everyone would except to work for a linux distrubution without errors): 1. Install you your OS (plain Ubuntu 16.04). 2. Install "KDE" as one of the most frequently used desktops. This is fixed. My guess is that an SRU will need to be submitted for inclusion on xenial ISOs. I am currently do not have the time to contribute to Kubuntu, so clivejo or yofel will need to get this done. On another note it looks like KTP may be unmaintained upstream and dropping it all togther is an option. You can use dpkg --remove. It'll complain that you can't uninstall package $X because $Y depends on it; when that happens, try dpkg --remove $Y (and so on, until it doesn't complain anymore). Also jammed up w/ this bug. Running Ubuntu 16.04 MATE & tried to install Kubuntu Desktop via Ubuntu Software Center. Hi, I just tested whether adding the staging-misc ppa solves the
problem. Unfortunately, it does not! More importantly, it seems like
there are still files in conflict that are not mentioned in bug 1565772.
Hence, I fear that this will not be solved even if bug 1565772 is
resolved.
("/usr/share/accounts/services/google-im.service" which is also in
"account-plugin-google")
It is important to say that the problem appears then configuring "kde-
config-telepathy-accounts" which is not contained in the above mentioned
PPA for xenial. This explains why it cannot be fixed.
Finally, I highly recommend that the Kubuntu quality testers should add the
following extremely simple test case:
- install ubuntu (standard, no changes)
- sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
The expected behavior is that one should get a system where the user can
select between unity and kde. In current Ubuntu 16.04, however, one gets
install conflicts. (In general, one should be able to install the meta-
packages of all flavors in parallel.)

Hi, I am maintaining a multi-user system for my working group. Since some people use KDE, some use MATE and some Gnome, this bug is an absolute show stopper. It does not allow us to install the meta packages e.g. for KDE and MATE in parallel. The only workaround I know is to manually remove the kde telepathy packages. Since this bug is now marked as "fixed", what can I do instead? Thanks Scarlett, the package looks correct now. What we still need is a rebuild of the kaccounts-providers package: the last libkaccounts-dev which is produced by the kaccounts-integration source package which you've just rebuilt has some variables changed in a cmake file, which should cause kaccounts-providers to install its files under another path. I'm not sure if I should be posting this here, so let me know if I need to remove it. I could not fix apt with any of the methods listed above, nor could I remove any of the kde-telepathy packages with purge. The fix for my problem seemed to be `sudo apt-get purge kde-telepathy*` as opposed to removing each file individually. This fixed apt and allowed me to remove kde-desktop. Note to KDE Ubuntu/Debian maintainers: as I understand it, a fix landed into the latest kaccounts-integration release and consists of a path change in a cmake configuration file, which is then read by kaccounts- plugins. So, both of these packages need to be updated in Ubuntu. Also, while those changes solve the conflicts with the files installed under /usr/share/accounts/, there remain conflicts on /etc/signon-ui/webkit-options.d/. But on this case, the files installed by kaccounts-plugins are the same installed by the Unity account-plugins package. Ok, turns out this actually breaks everything as the provider
id needs to match the filename.
So we've brainstormed this with Alberto again and we have
a better solution, which will involve a patch to libaccounts-glib
to look into /usr/share/accounts/{providers, services}/$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP/*
with /usr/share/accounts/{providers, services}/* as a fallback.
This way we can install our files into special directory without
needing any new env vars and/or changes in AppArmor and/or
needing to rename anything. All this will need is a new release
of libaccounts-glib.
I'll keep this bug updated.

Just had this on 16.04. I came here because I wanted to install multiple desktops. This works fine on 14.04, so it breaks because of this Telepathy stuff? Nothing should cause apt-get to break. If I wasn't doing a fresh install on VMWare I would be upset. OK, I think I understood why this bug is not getting any attention: I should verify with some more experienced Ubuntu developers, but AFAIU the Ubuntu package is a straight import from Debian. I believe that this file conflict does not occur in Debian because the account-plugins package does not exist there, so the problem was never detected there. If Ubuntu wants their "critical" bug fixed, they make kaccounts- providers conflict with account-plugins. The fact they are refusing to do so is insane, because the whole reason this is a problem in the first place is that apps using accounts-sso will produce duplicate account configuration options if we have duplicates in the profiles dir. This is the most "not KDE's problem" of any problem ever. We're using an Intel framework for accounts management the way it is intended, as are Canonical, and by design when two messaging providers provide the same service they should conflict one another rather than provide redundant entries that mess up the GUIs. How is the practicality of adding a KDE specific tag to our provider files and then renaming them with a prefix? I can go dig into the kaccounts-integration code and see if its possible. As Matt correctly points out above, it is /only/ problem with Ubuntu (Unity, to be more exact). But there is exactly zero willingness from Ubuntu packagers/developers to sort this out other than "this is KDE's problem" and "we'll ask to pull Telepathy from Kubuntu", as you can read in comment #6. Now, as you can infer from comments #7 and #8, as well as from the state of this bug, I /did/ actually fix this in a way that was recommended by Alberto, the upstream accounts-sso guy, who is the only helpful human in this issue. If Ubuntu's bug is still at critical level, what am I supposed to do? That is not our problem, we did fix this on our side as per recommendations. Telling us that some random Ubuntu bug is critical is just pointless. This fix however brought up different issues, which again are present mostly in Ubuntu-only with their AppArmor profile for Telepathy. Now this is, again, not our problem, but if you would read the report linked by Matt, I did propose an alternate solution which would work for everyone.
