Public bug reported:

Following situation:

- Ubuntu is configured use SSSD to permit login of LDAP users
- Automatic creation of home directories is switched on and confirmed to work
- LDAP users (as well as local users) can login to
  * local console
  * SSH console
  * LXDE (via LightDM)
  * Openbox (via LightDM)
- However, LDAP users can't use the standard Ubuntu session (Unity) because it
crashes right after LightDM permits the login (returning to the LightDM greeter)
- Local users can login to the standard Ubuntu session without any problems
- For LDAP users, after each failed login attempt, a file like
"upstart-udev-bridge.21334.pid" containing a five digit number different from
that in the file name is left back in the home directory

** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

** Attachment added: "Relevant section of lightdm.log"
