[Bug 145857] Re: [gutsy] thinkpad_acpi oops on thinkpad t22
I have te same or a similar problem here on a Thinkpad R31. I believe it is triggered by a "modprobe -r thinkpad_acpi", this process is here now since over half an hour. 107 4454 0.0 0.6 5612 3176 ?Ss 16:29 0:04 /usr/sbin/hald root 4455 0.0 0.2 3096 1040 ?S16:29 0:00 \_ hald-runner 107 4514 0.0 0.1 2160 896 ?S16:29 0:00 \_ hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event1 107 4519 0.0 0.1 2156 876 ?S16:29 0:00 \_ hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket 107 4539 0.0 0.2 3260 1188 ?S16:29 0:02 \_ hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/scd0 (every 2 sec) 107 4656 0.0 0.1 2156 888 ?S16:29 0:00 \_ hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event7 root 9364 0.0 0.0 1752 504 ?S17:43 0:00 \_ /bin/sh ./linux/hal-system-power-hibernate-linux root 9365 0.0 0.2 2872 1424 ?S17:43 0:00 | \_ /bin/bash /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh force root 9936 0.3 0.1 1696 608 ?S17:43 0:10 | \_ modprobe -r thinkpad_acpi 107 9903 0.0 0.1 2156 892 ?S17:43 0:00 \_ hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event5 107 9906 0.0 0.1 2156 892 ?S17:43 0:00 \_ hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event4 107 9908 0.0 0.1 2160 892 ?S17:43 0:00 \_ hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event6 I found this link with more information: http://www.nabble.com/Bug-435655:-linux-image-2.6.21-2-686:-ibm-acpi- oops-on-removal-t4205682.html . [Bug 145857] Re: [gutsy] thinkpad_acpi oops on thinkpad t22
Apologies for targeting the initial report to acpi-support. Further information: This occurs on a fresh install using http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu /daily-live/20070923/gutsy-desktop-i386.iso. I reinstalled to minimize upgrade errors. The kernel update afterwards produces the same oops (and is what was used in the dmesg). several of the /proc/acpi/ibm/ entries are missing which can cause monitoring applications to fail. $ ls /proc/acpi/ibm/ driver hotkey light video I tried patching the ubuntu source with thinkpad_acpi 0.16 (patches clean with offsets) but that still produces an oops. I then tried vanilla 2.6.22.9 from kernel.org and patch with 0.16 and there is no oops and the missing entries are back. $ ls /proc/acpi/ibm beep driver fan led thermal volume brightness ecdump hotkey light video In both cases .config was produced by copying /boot/config-2.6.22-12-generic and then 'make oldconfig' to try and eliminate configuration differences as a variable. I followed the procedure in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelCustomBuild. ** Attachment added: "dmesg from 2.6.22.9 with thinkpad_acpi 0.16 (no oops)" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9541643/dmesg-2.6.22.9 -- [gutsy] thinkpad_acpi oops on thinkpad t22 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145857 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
