As I wrote in the second comment, I'm guessing if it make sense to support it for other commands, like source, or build-source ( it could not be as simple as supporting install was ) I never wrote this part of the patch. Even apt-get source supports only the package=version syntax. it was not a syntax error. In perl the semicolon in the last statement isn't mandatory. I forgot to remove after my tests.
