I am of Hew's opiniion. I think the current options are clear and
explicit enough. Should we invalid this bug ?

[Bug 146734] Re: A tiny bug: Add/Remove application terminates unnecessarily.

2008-07-16 Thread Hew
** Description changed:

This installation: Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 beta.

First, many thanks for an excellent beta-release of Gutsy.

  Add/Remove... app (gnome-app-install):

  1) There is no reason what so ever to automatically quit and terminate
the Add/Remove... app after it has given an error message. I my case it
gives an error message because there's Synaptic working in the
background with daily-updates and it holds the apt's lock-file.
Add/Remove app reports an error and quits. Why it has to quit? Why not
just report the error and nicely sitt in the background and wait user's
  next action.

- 2) Add/Remove app (gnome-app-install) does not have a menubar. It does
- not comply with the GNOME's HIG (Human Interface Guidelines).
+ DESIRED SOLUTION:

- Hard to find any proper bugs.
+ The three current options of [Retry], [Add/Remove More Applications] and
+ [Close] should be simplified to just [Retry] and [Close], as [Close]
+ implies closing just the dialog, but actually closes the whole
+ application. The behaviour of [Close] should take the current behaviour
+ of [Add/Remove More Applications].

[Bug 146734] Re: A tiny bug: Add/Remove application terminates unnecessarily.

2008-07-16 Thread Hew
The window has the three options you mentioned; [Retry], [Add/Remove
More Applications] and [Close]. You are suggesting that [Close] should
have the functionality of [Add/Remove More Applications]. I don't agree
that [Close] should be the only option, as a user may genuinely wish to
close Synaptic and [Retry].

Tested with gnome-app-install/intrepid uptodate 0.5.5.1-0ubuntu1

2007-09-29 Thread moma
> That is the behavior on my system and I cannot reproduce your bug.
Isn't this the case on your system too?

Yes. The behavior is the same here.
The message dialog has three buttons: [Retry], [Add/Remove more
applications...] and a [Close] button.
End-user expects that the [Close]-button closes the message dialog, not the
whole application.

And if you click the [X] in the upper right corner of the dialog, it
closes both the dialog and application. That's quite odd.

MHO: Make the dialog simpler. It should only have a [OK] button.

2007-09-29 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
1. Actually gnome-app-install should not terminate but show a second
dialog with a retry button. That is the behavior on my system and I
cannot reproduce your bug. Isn't this the case on your system too?

2. Not every application needs a menu bar. Add/Remove is more like a
capplet (configuration applet, e.g. System > Preferences > Mouse).
