I am having a similar problem. The savdctl disable worked. This however disables sophos anti-virus. Is someone contacting sophos? Running without an active 'av' is a bad idea. [Bug 1469089] Re: libxul.so cannot open shared object file
I had Firefox open this morning on Xubuntu 14.04 , but it became unresponsive. I attempted to restart it and got the same error message as the OP mentioned. Reinstalling Firefox did not do anything. I also attempted renaming the .mozilla folder in case my profile got corrupted, but that didn't do anything either. Firefox doesn't appear to load to a point to create a new profile. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1469089 Title: libxul.so cannot open shared object file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1469089/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi all. I have exactly the same issue, and for me, it is a Sophos AV problem.
