[Bug 1480363] Re: GCC is not installed by default in Kubuntu
That's not the point. The point is that the softs that virtualbox guest additions need are not installed by default in Kubuntu whereas they are in others Ubuntu flavor. There is no real reason behind this and the pre-installation of these softs make the installation of virtualbox guest additions straightforward. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480363 Title: GCC is not installed by default in Kubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1480363/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1480363] Re: GCC is not installed by default in Kubuntu
It's not difficult to install VirtualBox in Ubuntu. Following their manual. all you need to do is to install DKMS and that drags in the required dependencies. If taking the most current version from the software-provider. If taking the version from the Ubuntu-repositories, all dependencies should be settled. – If NOT please consider reporting against the relevant packages.

The ISO is already a lot bigger than a CD (anybody still use this ?), a lot smaller than a DVD (anybody still use this too ?) and a lot smaller than the smallest USB stick needed (2GB). So the ISO size can't be a problem to integrate GCC. In term of user experience it will ease a lot the installation of VirtualBox Guest Addition that allow, for exemple, to increase the output resolution (640x480 to whatever you need like 1920x1080) and make testing of Kubuntu a lot more enjoyable. And God know that Kubuntu need better press. [Bug 1480363] Re: GCC is not installed by default in Kubuntu
So yeah, it is true that it is installed on all of the above. And through further investigation it is a matter of our ISO is already oversized due to the sheer size of KDE. I can't promise that we can get this one there as gcc does not come alone and needs more dependencies. So yeah this is a wishlist/opinion.
