[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
Marking this as fix released. If you are still having issues with enabling composite, please file a separate bug against your version of Ubuntu. Thanks! ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Fix Released -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
I have the same problem with the nvidia restricted drivers. The Composite option does not help. -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
this also affects the hardy development branch, in the exact same manner as described above by the original poster. (composite extension unavailable after installing the restricted fglrx driver, ok button not closing warning dialogue box, desktop effects still enabled despite the warning and inability to really start) -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
the fix for hardy is to change the second-to-last line in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to re-enable the composite extension after fglrx installation. The file previously read: Section Extensions Option Composite 0 EndSection when the 0 should be a 1 to enable the composite goodness. -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
I have the same issue after upgrading to 7.10 Gutsy (final release) today. I have not tried the method that michelle suggested above (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/148221/comments/4 ). I could try it if/when I have time to do all of that. I am surprised, though, because it sounds like you can run visual effects _without_ the restricted ATI driver after all -- so why use this driver? And why does Gutsy recommend so strongly that you install it after you do the main system upgrade? -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
Thanks for the information posted. That provided me with enough information that I was able to resolve this Composite extension not enabled issue. Upon completing installation of Ubuntu 7.10, I immediately enabled restricted drivers for my RX800 card. When I later saw this message, going on experience I'd learned from 7.04, I installed Emerald theme manager. Still got the same error message. Next, when I was tweaking some of the settings in the Emerald Theme Manager, on the Themes Settings tab Repositories tab, I noticed buttons for fetching GPL'd and non GPL'd themes. At the top of this tab was the instruction to install Subversion. At the bottom were the command line instructions for what to do once Subversion had been installed. Using Synaptic Package Manager, I searched for and installed Subversion and the required dependency packages. I then followed the instructions for activating the non-GPL repository. Both of these steps worked without a hitch. Unfortunately, I still got the same error message. That's when I found this post. I promptly disabled the restricted driver for my graphics card and restarted. On logging back into the system, I found that I was able to enable visual effects. So I am thinking that for some of you who started by disabling the restricted drivers, perhaps the next steps should be to install Emerald, Subversion, and activate the non-GPL repository for the themes (i.e. if you want the non-GPL'd). Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. [Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
I've got the exact same problem. (Composite extension not enabled, click ok, window reappears) Only difference is that I did an upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10. I also installed the restricted ATI driver. -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
I confirmed that the exact experience as described above only happens when the fglrx driver is enabled. When fglrx is removed, I now get the error Desktop effects could not be enabled, still a problem that it does not give more information. -- composite extension not enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148221] Re: composite extension not enabled
Actually, an important clarification: I did install the ATI restricted driver after the fresh install, so that installation could have possibly disabled the Composite extension.
