[Bug 149147] Re: [Gutsy-beta] Network adapter not available on Asus A7S during installation

2008-02-06 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released which contains an
updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy
Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you
can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your
results. General information regarding the release can also be found
here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks

Re: [Bug 149147] Re: [Gutsy-beta] Network adapter not available on Asus A7S during installation

2008-01-30 Thread Snailman
Hi,

i tried the latest amd64 install CD and noticed two things :

** The boot processed went wrong because the installer couldn't guess
the correct X resolution. I tried different resolution but it didn't
help.

** i checked in a console that the atl1 driver was listed in the
modules list. And it was! So i guess things would have been Ok on the
network side ... without the X issue...

Hope that will give you some helpful information.
Best regards!

Something else : it seems that this problem only affects users of the
"alternate" and the "64bit" intall/live CDs.
"ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso" appears to work well for everyone.

Could you test this live CD and tell us if the network works ?

[Bug 149147] Re: [Gutsy-beta] Network adapter not available on Asus A7S during installation

2008-01-09 Thread Benjamin Pineau
The same problem affects users of the Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboard
(which has the same onboard Attansic L1 network adapter).

This network card has a driver in Gutsy (actually, this driver was
merged in vanilla kernel since 2.6.19), and works well with the Gutsy
kernel *after* installation. But this driver (atl1 module) is not
available (or doesn't work) on the CDROM kernel used during the Gutsy
installation.
