My apologies - I'm running Feisty AMD64 with kernel 2.6.20-16-generic. Nautilus version is 2.18.1. I can definitely replicate this on any partition. I have two drives in my system - my Linux drive and an NTFS drive. My mistake - I rebooted Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 3, and now the status bar says "will be moved" even when selecting copy. I think that this is due to a problem with the locale? I am marking this bug as closed. It is fixed in my updated 10.04 LTS and I have confirmed in 11.04 that the status bar message now reads "Prepares the selected files to be copied with a Paste command". I have just gone into https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/nautilus/+pots/nautilus/en_AU/+translate and updated string #735 to make it state copied instead of moved. >From the comments here I think this has been done before but not committed. I will mark this as "in progress" as we are working on it but leave it open to make sure it does actually change and doesn't revert to stating moved at a later date.
