[Bug 151586] Re: Gutsy - Compiz windows will not maximize by default

2008-02-14 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could
test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of
Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Bug 151586] Re: Gutsy - Compiz windows will not maximize by default

2008-02-17 Thread Dave Steinberg
I just tried on Hardy Alpha 4, and I'm still seeing exactly the same
problems. However, I also happened to stumble upon a work-around, which
works both there and on Gutsy. I can fix the problem like this:

Run System > Preferences > Screen Resolution. Change the resolution to
something lower (normally I run at 1280x1024, so I switch it to
1024x760) and hit Apply. Then, when it asks if I want to keep the new
resolution, I just click Use previous resolution.

After this, all of my graphics problems go away: windows maximize
correctly, fullscreen video works (in totem and mplayer), and the screen
doesn't flash blank anymore. This lasts until I end my session. The
next time I login, all the problems are back.

Robert, do you want to try this and see if it works for you? If not, I
guess we're having different problems, and so I'll file a different bug.

2008-03-14 Thread Travis Watkins
Sounds like the intel driver has enabled the VGA output even if you
don't have something hooked up to it. That would cause you to have two
outputs, one the size of these maximized windows you're seeing and one
your actual screen size.

[Bug 151586] Re: Gutsy - Compiz windows will not maximize by default

2008-03-16 Thread unggnu
Please attach the output of xrandr.
I guess the driver issue is a duplicate of Bug #123170 and the compiz one is a
duplicate of Bug #130933.
The driver problem should be fixed in Hardy Alpha 6 and later.

Should be fixed in Hardy; feel free to reopen if it's still there
though. We'd want to see the output of `xrandr` and your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log file in that case.

[Bug 151586] Re: Gutsy - Compiz windows will not maximize by default

2007-12-05 Thread Dave Steinberg
I'm having the same problem, also on an Intel graphics adapter (Mac
mini):

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

For me, I'd say about the top 2/3 to 3/4 of the screen is being filled
on maximize. I'm seeing a couple of additional symptoms, too. For one,
the screen flashes blank for a second or so at login and when totem
starts up. Totem's fullscreen model also occupies the same amount of
space as maximized windows when compiz is running, and mplayer's
fullscreen mode is similarly limited, whether compiz is running or not.

Awesome, at least we may have found the root cause. I look forward to
upgrading to Hardy.
Thank you for the update.
