[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2008-08-29 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2008-02-14 Thread Jared
FYI UPDATE

The recent updates to kernel image and libc6-xen have NOT fixed this
problem

Still keep using 2.6.19-4 for reliability.

[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2008-01-22 Thread Jared
Okay, installing xen-image-2.6.19-4-server has solved the problem. I am
lucky that our lab has older hardware so it works okay (at this early
stage of testing)

I'm presuming this bug wont get "fixed" as its likely to be "fixed" in
Hardy. Unfortunatly, hardy wont meet university cut off for disk images
for the Australian teaching semester.

Kind regards to everyones comments and help in resolving this.

J

That's a good thought Although I've just got rid of this issue by
using virtualbox instead. I might try xen again in the future.

[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2008-01-22 Thread Martin Emrich
I got rid of this problem by using xen-image-2.6.19-4 instead of linux-
image-2.6.22-14-xen. Of course this is not a "real" solution.

Ciao

[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2008-01-22 Thread dave_atl
Jared - I have the exact same issue. Just installed xen-server on gutsy
and every time I tried to create an image the system froze. I decided to
reboot and leave it over night to think on it. I've come back this
morning and it has frozen in mid backup - heavy I/O again.

Have you had any further thoughts on how to resolve? I've uninstalled
xen for now until I can do some further research into making it work.

[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2008-01-22 Thread Jared
This bug is biting me too. Doing somethign disk intensive (find /usr
--iname "*I*" -exec grep BOO '{}' \;) causes random freezes (when
running the 2.6.22-14-xen kernel.

No dom0's running

I Got the error intially doing xen-create-image when it populates the
domU filesystem (again, disk activity)

Anyway I can be helpful, let me know. I need to get this workign before
start of semester.

Alternatively, I will be at LCA 2008 next week :) But will only bring
the hardware if requested.

[Bug 152096] Re: xen-kernel freeze after strong filesystem activity

2007-10-15 Thread Martin Emrich
Without a backtrace of the original reporter, I cannot confirm if mine
is the same problem, but the title fits... ;)

While removing many packages from my system (=strong disk activity), the kernel
crashed. (gutsy x86_32, Xen 3.1)
Attached are the last words of the kernel, sync()ed in pain with SysRq...

Ciao
