Roman, to clarify https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/+bug/1525228/comments/5 , what is requested is the information
for a router where this doesn't work.

Im sorry,

with "success" i meant that it was possible to enable a stable,
WPA2-secured connection with a 5Ghz network.

I repeated my tests with a known AP with success!

It was an Asus RT-AC56U
Firmware Version: 3.0.0.4.378_4585
This site will propably contain all the information about the AP:
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ASUS_RT-AC56U

The network i associated with is secured by WPA2.

[Bug 1525228] Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 cannot connect to encrypted 5Ghz networks

2015-12-12 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Roman, thanks for testing. The next thing that would be helpful is the
WAP manufacturer, model, and firmware version. It is understood that
this is primarily reproducible with a university WAP. However, given the
circumstances, it would be proper if you asked them for this
information, and for them to provide it to you so you may get your
device working on campus.

Hence, could you please advise to this?

[Bug 1525228] Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 cannot connect to encrypted 5Ghz networks

2015-12-12 Thread Roman
The QCA6174/hw3.0 belongs to a newer revision of the QCA6174 device
([168c:003e] (rev 32)).

My device has (rev 20) which firmware is located under QCA6174/hw2.1.

I tested it still with these results (dmesg | grep ath10k):

[5.619699] ath10k_pci :03:00.0: pci irq msi-x interrupts 8 irq_mode 0

2015-12-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Roman, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

While you may have tested a later version of the firmware than is in a
Ubuntu repository, it appears there is a later version available from
upstream. Hence, could you please test https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-
firmware/tree/master/QCA6174/hw3.0 and advise to the results?

[Bug 1525228] Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 cannot connect to encrypted 5Ghz networks

2015-12-11 Thread Roman
** Description changed:

The device works fine with Ubuntu 15.10 mainline kernel 4.2.0 and the
firmware provided in linux-firmware on 2,4 Ghz wifi networks or
  unencrypted 5GHz networks.

But when i connect to a encrypted 5Ghz network. The firmware provide in
linux-firmware (WLAN.RM.1.1-00141) crashed like i think is described here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1516384

So i installed the latest firmware release SW_RM.1.1.1-00157-QCARMSWPZ-1
  from ath10k-firmware (https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware/)

In this version the firmware doesn't crash but goes into a loop. Like
you see in dmesg, the device associates with the AP, but from an unknown
  reason it cannot connect.

At the moment i cannot provide you any details about the AP im testing
with, because im using my universities network, but if you really need
them i can test the device with an known AP in a week or so.

+ I reported the bug to the ath10k mailing list, but i think the topic got lost:

- PS: I tested the problem with all mainline and upstream kernels(4.2.6,
4.3.0,4.4rc4) without any difference.
