[Bug 1525615] Re: Ubuntu not booting on iMac 5K with ACPI enabled

2015-12-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
tedaste, this would appear a two part problem (acpi and graphics), but
let the initial focus be on the first issue of not able to boot up at
all without acpi-off. Hence, the issue you are reporting is an upstream
one. Could you please report this problem following the instructions
verbatim at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel to the
appropriate mailing list (TO Rafael J. Wysocki, and Len Brown, CC linux-
acpi)?

Please provide a direct URL to your post to the mailing list when it
becomes available so that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.

With a 27in 5k ( new as of two weeks ago) I'm unable to boot. The
applies to both the live installer and a system installed on disk. I

removed from the kernel parameters. The system has a 250G SSD. I'm using
the Kubutu live installer for Wily off a USB stick.

When I tried the latest 4.4 it didn't work. When I included 'nomodeset'
it got to "loading initial ramdisk" and stopped.

When you boot with acpi=false the GUI is slow because it's using the

I'm running into the same issue. Tried Kernel 4.4-rc5, would also not
boot without acpi=off and nomodeset.

After booting with those two parameters, the GUI is very sluggish,
animations take on the order of seconds.

Also lost mouse and keyboard (wireless) functionality when upgrading -
possibly unrelated.

2015-12-14 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.4 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1525615] Re: Ubuntu not booting on iMac 5K with ACPI enabled

2015-12-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1525615/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
