[Bug 152609] Re: firefox crash on loading website w MS Core Fonts

2007-10-23 Thread Alexander Sack
does starting firefox with MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 set in environment fix
this for you?

e.g.

export MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1
firefox

in terminal.

Yes, MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 causes Firefox to work. Thank god, I don't have
to use Opera any more!

In my case the message was about the Tahoma font, which I had just installed.
 I changed the permissions on the tahoma fonts to -rw-r--r-, and firefox
stopped crashing.

[Bug 152609] Re: firefox crash on loading website w MS Core Fonts

2007-10-20 Thread Joshua Swink
Same problem here. This bug makes Firefox completely unusable for me in
Gutsy.

I upgraded from 7.04 to 7.10 and Firefox cannot display web pages
anymore. It crashes on startup while trying to display file:///usr/share
/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html.

However, it will run normally until it encounters certain fonts, e.g.:

-
$ echo 'Hello!' > index.html
$ firefox index.html
-

This will allow Firefox to start up normally. Of course, as soon as I
try to view a real web page, it crashes:

-
$ firefox http://slashdot.org/

(gecko:14580): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect
ugly output. the offending font is 'Trebuchet MS Italic 9.7998046875'
-

It managed to display slashdot's page fairly well before crashing.

Attached are two crash logs as described at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs.
