[Bug 1532909] Re: Dell XPS 13 - 9333 Kernel problems after update to wily
hello christopher, I'm running linux-headers-4.4.0-040400-generic_4.4.0-040400.201601101930_amd64.deb successfully since 2 days now. As this kernel did not include the necessary firmware for my notebook i needed to download and install https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/intelr-graphics-linux/sklgucver43.tar.bz2 Using this 4.4.0-040400 kernel no kernel oops showing in logs. But: still have bad responsiveness of keyboard and mouse. So bad that sometimes even key press events from keyboard on shell are missing. Although this seems to be related to running conky - same as had been in 15.04 on this laptop. So might be a problem of Xorg - running standard unity from 15.10 on the machine. Please advice: do you need a new bug report or switch this one to Xorg-unity-conky ? afrank, it would be most helpful for you to test out http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ to see if it provides a more stable platform for you to go forward on, and to see if this issue is resolved in it. [Bug 1532909] Re: Dell XPS 13 - 9333 Kernel problems after update to wily
afrank, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-a08 ** Tags added: latest-bios-a08 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Medium ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532909 Title: Dell XPS 13 - 9333 Kernel problems after update to wily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1532909/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1532909] Re: Dell XPS 13 - 9333 Kernel problems after update to wily
afrank, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/xps-13-9333/drivers/advanced an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A08). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a08 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532909 Title: Dell XPS 13 - 9333 Kernel problems after update to wily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1532909/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
