I did some testing, and it appears it *is* a kernel bug after all, as
this happens when using Kubuntu or when manually running pmi from the
command line.  Also, I reloaded my system with the -12 kernel (from
Ubuntu beta) and the issue doesn't appear.  Marking as invalid, and
reopening the previous bug.

OK - I am managing to reproduce it when suspending using the menu options.  I 
am, however, opening the lid to resume in this case.  
In any case, I figure g-p-m is somehow receiving erroneous "lid" and/or 
"suspend" events, and as such is stuck in a suspend loop.
