[Bug 153728] Re: Gutsy Screen Prefs: Thinkpad X60 Secondary Screen grayed out

2008-11-17 Thread Oliver Dungey
Not sure how relevant it is but just trying to spread the word that
there are still some foibles in Intrepid:

I have just fully configured dual screen via screen preferences in
Intrepid on a Lenovo T60 with an Intel 945 but it would only work after
running the following command:

"xrandr --output VGA --off"

[Bug 153728] Re: Gutsy Screen Prefs: Thinkpad X60 Secondary Screen grayed out

2008-05-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make Ubuntu
better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side effect
of these improvements is that it has rendered several design assumptions
in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we are no longer
putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration tool, and are
putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution applet. As a
result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing it.

For more background on this change, please see this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/DisplayConfigGtk

** Changed in: displayconfig-gtk (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Won't Fix

I believe that displayconfig-gtk has been deprecated with the extended desktop
functionality being added to Intrepid.

2008-04-21 Thread Archie
I have the same problem on my IBM x61 laptop. The secondary screen is
always disabled. I tried to use xrandrx to enable VGA output, but it is
always disconnected even the monitor is connected.

I can't switch to my external monitor. Sebastian you mentioned that this
would be fixed in half a year (by now). Are there any news? fixes?

Problems with my Dell Latitude D520 too.

I installed xrandr and grandr... cloning works (allthough the menu bar on the
notebook display renders to the screen size of the monitor display), but I
cannot get extended desktop enabled, not with xrandr cli,

Using grandr gui tool, I see the radio button "clone <-> extend" disabled...

[Bug 153728] Re: Gutsy Screen Prefs: Thinkpad X60 Secondary Screen grayed out

2007-10-24 Thread Grzegorz
Ok I must check this, but my first impression was that xrandr/grandr deals
mostly with rotation/reflection - and it's not what i need. But I must dig into
this topic deeper, I think.
Anyway I assume that the lack of support for intel driver to be configured via
displayconfig-gtk is a bug, which should be fixed in next realease of Ubuntu.

Grzegorz: take a look at the given link. Alternatively there is
graphical user interface for the xrandr command line tool that is called
grandr

It will be fixed in an half year. But I hope to make packages for Gutsy
available before. But we are talking in terms of monthes.

[Bug 153728] Re: Gutsy Screen Prefs: Thinkpad X60 Secondary Screen grayed out

2007-10-21 Thread Grzegorz
I have the same problem with my Laptop (MAXDATA ECO 4510 IW) with Intel 945GM.
I tried to connect TV (LCD) via VGA-cable. But:
- Secondary screen in Xorg configuration tool is always disabled when I'm using
'intel' driver
- when I changed to i810 driver and restarted X, system freezes on "running
local scripts" and I'm not able to do anything, must switch back to backup
xorg.conf file (with 'intel' driver) (and btw. I prefer intel driver, because
it sees my native screen resolution 1280x800 by default, without any hacks,
which were needed in i810)
- the Fn-F4 (key combination for changing screens on my laptop) does not work
at all: nothing happens when I press it
So I'm stuck at this moment and not able to connect to external TV. I have no
other "standards" monitor or projector to test it.

Sebastian - why can I do it with intel driver? Is it a problem of the
driver? Will it be fixed soon?

2007-10-21 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
Sorry.

You cannot configure a second monitor using displayconfig-gtk and the
intel driver. But you can with the xrandr tool:
http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/dualhead.html

As far as I know cloning will always resize.

2007-10-21 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Sebastian: Could you please be a bit more explicit about "this doesn't
work"? Does panning vs. resizing not work, or does dual monitor not
work, or is it simply that displayconfig-gtk doesn't work with the intel
driver? If the latter, can everything be achieved with the xrandr
command line tool? It does seem to have gotten better at detecting
monitors.

This does not work with the intel driver. You would have to choose the
i810 driver to get it done in displayconfig-gtk or use the command line
tool xrandr.

2007-10-20 Thread Rob Frohne
I don't know what I did, but on Friday, I had both the projector and the
screen mirrored. It must have had to do with the order of connecting
the projector. I'll try and check it out next week and see what did it.

I am also wondering why there isn't a question whether I want panning or
resizing in the secondary screen when the screen dimensions don't match.

Same thing here with a Dell D600 Latitude laptop. I can change the
display from the laptop to the projector using Fn F8, but I like to look
at my laptop instead of the screen that is behind me.
