[Bug 153730] Re: Ubuntu fails to mount new USB mp3 player as a mass storage device
I have what seems to be a similar problem with my HP R707 camera. The camera works fine in Kubuntu 7.04 but freezes (won't shut off or otherwise respond) when connected to Kubuntu 7.10. When I run fdisk -l the camera isn't listed. I ran dmesg after connecting the camera to both versions of kubuntu, and the only line that is different is the line [ 167.175363] scsi scan: INQUIRY result too short (5), using 36 in version 7.10. Here are the outputs from dmesg: Kubuntu 7.04 dmesg [ 163.081366] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 [ 163.263162] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 163.266203] scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [ 163.266396] usb-storage: device found at 2 [ 163.266398] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [ 168.264157] usb-storage: device scan complete [ 168.267148] scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access HP PhotoSmart R707 A001 PQ : 0 ANSI: 0 [ 168.272105] SCSI device sdf: 985089 512-byte hdwr sectors (504 MB) [ 168.275097] sdf: Write Protect is off [ 168.275100] sdf: Mode Sense: 0f 00 00 00 [ 168.275103] sdf: assuming drive cache: write through [ 168.284082] SCSI device sdf: 985089 512-byte hdwr sectors (504 MB) [ 168.287081] sdf: Write Protect is off [ 168.287085] sdf: Mode Sense: 0f 00 00 00 [ 168.287087] sdf: assuming drive cache: write through [ 168.287091] sdf: sdf1 [ 168.296109] sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sdf [ 168.296166] sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg5 type 0 Kubuntu 7.10 dmesg [ 161.997581] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 [ 162.175359] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 162.178631] scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [ 162.179423] usb-storage: device found at 2 [ 162.179427] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [ 167.172365] usb-storage: device scan complete [ 167.175363] scsi scan: INQUIRY result too short (5), using 36 [ 167.175374] scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access HP PhotoSmart R707 A001 PQ : 0 ANSI: 0 [ 167.180306] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] 985089 512-byte hardware sectors (504 MB) [ 167.183301] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Write Protect is off [ 167.183305] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Mode Sense: 0f 00 00 00 [ 167.183308] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 167.192283] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] 985089 512-byte hardware sectors (504 MB) [ 167.195284] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Write Protect is off [ 167.195289] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Mode Sense: 0f 00 00 00 [ 167.195291] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 167.195296] sdf: sdf1 [ 167.204306] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk [ 167.204363] sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg5 type 0 If there is a way to find the response to the inquiry that seems to be where this is hanging up please let me know and I'll be happy to provide it. -- Ubuntu fails to mount new USB mp3 player as a mass storage device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153730 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also have a problem with my music player / USB drive. It has never been able to mount in Gutsy. It mounts fine on Feisty on the same computer, and on Fedora.
