That might not be the same bug. I did get a loading screen but black after that. Do you get the same kind of errors in the gdm and xorg logs? I tried to fix the problem by deleting all leftover Nvidia things I could find, but no luck. I ended up doing a clean install after taking a final back up. Now it works as it should. I got the exact same error. I'm very new to Linux so I don't know to help you correct it, but I do know that I got that black screen immediately after I installed Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (no modification at any level, just a simple, standard installation with the language set to Spanish). Yes, I have been using propietary drivers earlier. Both the nvidia-glx- new under feisty and a driver that came from the nvidia website. The driver from the website was uninstalled. Yes, you can try to reinstall packages with: apt-get install --reinstall package And use the locate command to find files with for instance nvidia in the name. Here is the Xorg.0.log.old file. It contains the info when X is looking for the correct values.
